Coolangatta State School is a beautiful school surrounded by
well-maintained gardens and shaded areas.
The school grounds are a perfect area for play with large
flat playing fields, a basketball court and tennis courts. There are a number
of playgrounds including a spider’s web for students to explore. There are
designated playgrounds for the Junior, Middle and Senior students.
In 2011, Coolangatta State School built a modern Resource Centre
and Computer Lab with green room. The Resource centre is connected to a secure
wet area used for games clubs, science activities and art. Students have access
to these areas throughout the school day.
All classrooms have interactive whiteboards with wireless technology
throughout. Each class has access to a bank of 10 iPads for creating, coding
and gaming.
We have an environmental club which we are very proud
of. The environmental club members and
their supervising teacher lead the development of the vegetable garden. The vegetable garden includes 9 raised garden
beds and our very own green house. The students
are involved in planting, maintaining and harvesting crops and seasonal aspects
of produce. Environmental awareness
through composting food scraps from lunches for nurturing soils, managing the
worm farm are also part of the environmental club duties.
The students learn about the natural production of food
through enjoying the produce grown with cooking experiences for the entire
school. In addition to these learning
experiences the school’s vegetable garden and the environmental club provides
children with wonderful learning opportunities for all aspects of development. It promotes team work, fine and gross motor development,
problem solving, and leadership development all in our wonderful natural
outdoor garden.
During out of school hours, we hire the school hall and
grounds for community events and activities. Our hall has a small stage, sound
deck and av projector for use. Please contact (07) 5589 0111 to arrange hire of
these facilities.
